Hong Kong FSDC
By Rocky Tung
I had the privilege of speaking at the Hong Kong Investor Relations Association (HKIRA) on a topic close to my heart -- Investing through Hong Kong for our future in a turbulent world.
I jokingly opened by saying I had turned down two requests from the organiser: delivering a speech on "Hong Kong as an International Financial Centre" and using slides. But the truth is I had spent time on the context for those 20 minutes on stage to highlight that Hong Kong's future demands more than just rhetoric.
There are three things we must do to strengthen our competitiveness:
- Optimise policies & regulations To stay ahead, we must refine our framework continuously to ensure Hong Kong remains agile, attractive, and aligned with global best practices.
- Share our story We have been working hard behind the scenes, but we need industry practitioners on board because progress only happens when we move together.
- Go beyond networking Bringing people together isn't enough. We must cultivate relationships through in-depth, in-person discussions. Yes, it takes time and resources, but that is how we create lasting value.
This is exactly what the Financial Services Development Council has been doing over the years -- shaping policy, facilitating dialogue, and fostering collaboration to secure Hong Kong's position as a world-leading financial hub.
The road ahead may not be easy, but with focus, partnership, and execution, I am confident we will rise to the challenge.

Luxembourg for Finance (LFF)
The ESG landscape is evolving - but progress remains uneven. While many financial firms have made bold sustainability commitments, actual implementation is harder to track.
Only 3% of capital markets activity globally in 2024 went to companies driving ESG progress, while 19% went to those delaying it.
The good news? Some banks are starting to set transition conditions for high-emitting clients. And engagement strategies - especially in Europe - are gaining traction, particularly among asset managers.
But meaningful long-term thinking, targeted engagement, and more transparency can help turn commitments into outcomes.
