#WAIFC Young Academic Award 2024: Winners (3) ๐
๐ Regean mugume, Research Analyst at the Economic Policy Research Centre in Uganda, is one of the winners of the #WAIFC Young Academic Award 2024 ๐
His paper, titled "Delivering double wins: How can #Africaโs finance deliver economic growth and renewable energy transition?", delves into a crucial topic for our future. ๐๐
Regeanโs research highlights that as economies grow, they often prioritize industrialization with fossil fuels, posing a challenge to climate action. ๐ฑ There is an urgent need to finance a clean energy transition for sustainable growth.
His study investigates how financial development influences the shift to renewable energy across 20 low- and middle-income countries in sub-Saharan Africa. ๐
The results show a positive impact of financial development on renewable energy transition, particularly through financial institutions, rather than markets. Interestingly, this effect is more significant in low-income countries than in middle-income ones.
